Cloth presets - bend / stretch etc. presets are useful, but they are only half the solution.

You also need to consider -
  • mesh resolution - for example you won't get believable small silk folds with large polygons. For this reason alone, anyone who says their sim is resolution independent, is blowing smoke ..... Matching resolution to your target look, is important.
  • interaction with air - lighter cloths are very much influenced by collision with the still air around them.
  • friction - friction plays a major role in the creating a believable look for certain types of cloth, such as silk.
  • iterations and subdivisions - these settings are determined by the number of polygons in the cloth and the cloth thickness.
