When I tried to install SIM_CarbonTool-9.5.1-vc141 to my windows, two folders "houdini18.0" and "numerion" were extracted at the same place with the installer exe and got error messages in a command window. It said "Invalid number of parameters".

Hi dai,

Would it be possible to share more information about the installation process, i.e. do you have a screenshot of the complete installation messaging?
Are you using a "default" Windows and Houdini setup, or have you altered any of the Houdini-related environment variables?

Which installer are you using, i.e. which Houdini version?

In order to fix the install manually, on a default machine, the contents of the houdini18.0 folder need to be copied into the following folder: %USERPROFILE%/Documents/houdini18.0
And numerion/SIM_CarbonTool-9.5.1 and numerion/carbon.ico need to be copied into the following folder: %USERPROFILE%/Documents/numerion
Obviously, these folder will be different if you have altered any of the environemtn variables, or are using OneDrive.

I hope this helps.

Cheers,
Sebastian

Hi Sebastian,
We use "default" Windows and Houdini setup and its version is 18.0.287.
We could have installed previous versions with same way as this time. Please see attached movie.
Error message is in Japanese and means "Invalid number of parameters".

Hi dai,

Thanks for the video. We will invesitgate more and will get back to you with a fixed unstaller or more questions.
In the meantime, could you try to manually move the folders into their desigated locations, as explained in my last post?
This should get you up and running while we sort out the installer.

Cheers,
Sebastian

I'll ask our simulation SV to do so :-)
He tests new version first and then other artists will follow when it seemed fine.

Thank you so much.

Hi Dai,
Looks like this is an anti-virus issue.
When I run the install with my virus checker (Avast) active it partially blocks the install, but does not warn me its blocking.
Looks like it is installing on my desktop, but it is not really just ghost folders that disappear when I refresh with F5.
Usually it warns me, but for some reason it doesn't with this build.

When I turn off the anti-virus off it installs just fine.
Suggest you turn off anti-virus and do the install and then turn it back on.

Once you get it running - I hope you can experience the performance improvement in this build.

Cheers,
Mike

We found a solution!
We put installers under the path below before.
[project path]\lib\tools\carbon\Installer\Houdini\SIM_CarbonTool-9.5.1\Windows 9.5.1

Now we changed the last "Windows 9.5.1" to "Windows9.5.1" and then the installer worked fine.
There were no problem to have spaces in the path before so I guess the installation batch was changed.

Cheers,

dai, thank you so much for this information. Yes it looks like there was also an issue with folder names. There are updated builds available now. Thanks, Admin
