Often artists want to create a stiff cloth panel on a garment, but don't want the compute overhead of using a high cloth stiffness.
A very fast, flexible and effective alternative is welding an actor or rigid to the cloth. This also allows sharp features to be created in cloth !
Check out this video tutorial explaining how to leverage this approach in Carbon Cloth for Maya.

A similar approach can be used in Carbon for Houdini (DOP). Check out this example in the docs "example_soft_welding_rigids_cloths_joints.hip"
