Hi,
Is there any way to save subframe cache? I found that the carbon saves caches only integer frame though I set substeps.
I'm not good at using Houdini so I tried it in Maya. Is it possible to do that in carbon for Houdini?

Hi dai,

We currently do not support this in Maya, but it is on our todo list.
In Houdini, this works fine when you use Carbon in DOP.
All you need to do is to change the Global Animation Options from Integer to floating point.
We need to address this in SOP in the future.

Cheers,
Sebastian

Just to add that today you can still generate "subframes" in Maya by simply running the animation /simulation at a faster frame rate.
If you want 10 subframes you can simply run at 240 FPS. This is actually the best solution for simulation subframe generation, especially if you have fast motion, because it guarantees the visual match between the cloth and the character motion. While if you ask Carbon to generate the subframes then Carbon's interpolation of the character motion for the subframes may not match Maya's interpolation of the character motion when you replay the cache. So you may get interpenetration between character and garment.

Performance wise at higher frequency you can run with much smaller simulation iterations and subdivisions and so the simulation performance loss is not large.

Meanwhile we recognise that sometimes you have a sim set up that you just want to keep exactly the same, but generate subframes.
So the Carbon subframe cache output is on the roadmap for the major release in mid - late Q1 2020.

Cheers,
